Beloved Preloved – A Sustainable Fashion Initiative for Circularity

Fashion waste continues to be a pressing issue in the industry. The Beloved Preloved project is a transformative initiative that advocates for sustainable fashion by reviving unwanted garments. Launched as part of Get Redress Month 2024 in collaboration with Redress, a leading non-profit dedicated to promoting sustainable practices in fashion, this project unfolds in multiple phases. Each phase introduces engaging updates designed to inspire and captivate participants, fostering a deeper connection to the principles of circularity and responsible consumption. Together, we aim to redefine the narrative around fashion waste and celebrate the beauty of preloved garments.
Phase 1

Give away your preloved fashion items @ STORE by PolyU Fashion

In mid-2024, STORE has partnered with Redress, inviting the PolyU community to participate in our initiative by contributing their preloved garments to the designated Get Redressed Month collection box. By repurposing clothing, extending its life through resale, and recycling materials, you can help create a more sustainable and cleaner future.

We encourage all students to support this cause by spreading the word and inspiring others to get involved. Together, we have the power to spark a wave of positive change in the fashion industry. Let’s unite to elevate sustainable fashion and make it the norm!

During the donation period, our main objective has been to raise awareness about the significance of sustainable fashion. Our mission goes beyond simply collecting preloved garments from students and staff; we are equally dedicated to educating them on the vital need to minimize fashion waste. Throughout the donation month, we have rolled out various promotions and educational campaigns aimed at showcasing the impact of individual actions in driving change. By grasping the influence of our fashion choices, each of us has the potential to contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.

Phase 2

“Hand me Down” Pop-Up Corner

The “Hand Me Down” Pop-Up Corner is an ongoing initiative born from our successful collaboration with Redress, aimed at fostering a sustainable fashion ethos. We warmly invite our patrons to visit our store and discover the latest treasures in our preloved collection. Each item has been carefully selected for its exceptional quality and timeless style, allowing everyone to enjoy fashion without straining their budgets.

Additionally, we welcome submissions during this pop-up event. Students with preloved fashion pieces in excellent condition are encouraged to share them with us. This is a simple yet meaningful way to refresh your wardrobe while giving cherished items a new lease on life.

Earn from your preloved fashion items

To encourage more students to contribute clothing, we’ve implemented a unique system for our second-hand pop-up: all proceeds will go back to the donors once their preloved pieces find new homes. We’re open to a wide variety of garments, whether they carry a brand name or not, suitable for any season, style, or gender. We also welcome accessories like scarves, hats, and bags. So, explore your closets and uncover those hidden gems!

To ensure a positive experience for future owners, we kindly ask that all donated items be freshly laundered and free from stains, tears, or excessive wear. Let’s work together to give these pieces a second life and promote sustainable fashion right here on campus!
