Dr Tsai-Chun Huang @huangtsaichun picked the God Guardians, ‘Pat ka chiòng (八家將)’ from Taiwanese folklore adopting his new interest in hand-tufting technique to create this design on a fencing mask based on the geometrized images of lotus leaves and flowers. The tufting yarns give a different and soft texture than the sharp and traditional makeup, so the audience may find it less scary to approach and appreciate the traditional culture.
The mask has also been exhibited in Art&Poetry open-air Museum @appamuseum in Italy in response to the theme of ’20 Santi’.
